Three Types of Annuities. Only One Is Right for You.

Used correctly, an annuity can be one of the smartest pieces of a retirement plan — guaranteed income, protection from market losses, or a predictable rate of return, depending on what you need it to do. Used incorrectly, it can leave you locked into the wrong product for the wrong reasons. The difference almost always comes down to one thing: whether the person you talked to actually understood all three types and their details well enough to match the right one to your situation, or just sold you the one they had.

There are three types of annuities, and each one is built to do something different:

Lifetime Income annuities convert part of your savings into a paycheck you can never outlive, no matter how the market performs or how long you live.

Accumulation annuities are built to grow your money using market-linked gains, while protecting you from ever losing ground when the market drops.

Fixed-Rate annuities work like a CD, but often with a stronger guaranteed rate, giving you a predictable return with zero market risk and tax-deferral.

Most people could use one of these three — the challenge is figuring out which one actually fits their goals, their timeline, and the rest of their retirement picture.

This is exactly where most agents and advisors fall short. Many only understand one or two of these products well, and most only have access to a handful of carriers — so you end up with whatever they're able to offer, not necessarily what's best for you. Jim has access to nearly every major U.S. carrier and has spent 17+ years and over 2,000 conversations helping people sort through exactly this decision. And remember, any annuity should be part of an overall plan - which is where we separate ourselves.
